Katie & Gwen
As we head into January, we took a deep dive into the lives of two of our ambassadors, Katie + Gwen. These two accomplish so much every. single. day. - it's incredible. Whether it's a mountain adventure with dogs, vlogging, creating recipes for a food blog or training to do something that seems near impossible in firefighter gear - they make it happen. Oh, and did we mention they also run a non-profit? They are truly amazing.
Here's a snapshot of what they've been up to, where they're headed and how they plan to succeed.
Gwen ran 100 miles in full firefighter gear - we're in awe! Here's the story behind it from his + Katie's point of view,
"We planned this event to create attention around our cancer prevention message. But it turned out many people join during the run and it became an opportunity for so many of them to push their personal limits! The energy around this event was very intense, and we would not have been able to do it without the support from everybody. People were biking, or running further than they ever ran before to support. Erik, who became a really good friend since that event, ran 100 miles without even planning on doing it. His previous longest run before was 30 miles. He didn’t train specifically for 100 miles since he didn’t expect to do it. But like I said, the energy around this event was very special. People who are fighting cancer didn’t choose this fight, yet, they don’t have an easy way out, they have to fight. So for all of us during this event, we remembered that and took this challenge, a fight we had the luxury to choose, very seriously and quitting was not an option."
Katie started a food blog, Lemons + Leggings, check it out here: lemonsandleggings.com. She's making vegan food fun and easy and healthy food, healthier! Here's a delicious recipe she shared with us, one bowl vegan gluten-free pumpkin spice nut bread. We've already made it twice - it's that good!
Gwen: "My number 1 focus for 2019 is the Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle in March. 2000 firefighters from all around the world compete in the biggest on air firefighter stairclimb to fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My first year I placed 67th, last year 25th, so my goal for this year is to break into the top 10. It's an ambitious goal for sure. My winter training until then will be lot of skate skiing with tons of hills, and snowshoeing in deep snow! Fun and effective to get me in top shape!"
Katie: "I am shifting my focus from racing and “running” to simply challenging myself outdoors and believe it or not I have never done a thru-hike. So I am planning on spending lots of time outside January 1st until July when I will make it happen!"
HOW DO THEY DO IT ALL?
Katie + Gwen believe that life is too short to work to pay for things that don’t really make you happy. The best resolution/goal you can set for yourself is one that pushes you to discover more about yourself and what makes you happy.
Prioritize everything, that's the key.
Re-prioritize to maximize time doing what you love, even if it's only 30 minutes
