"It wasn’t until the fall of 2009 that I began running and learned what it meant to be an athlete. Since then, I have seen places I never thought I’d see, have run a breadth of distances I never thought possible, and have completed 8 races of 100 miles or longer, including a 100-mile slam and the Badwater 135. I can rely on [Skout] to give me the energy I need without forcing me to slow down or stop what I'm doing due to stomach upset.”
In his Junior year high school, Jeremy Fullerton's US history teacher introduced him to climbing. Little did he know that in just a few years it would become his way of life.
"At the beginning of 2016 I made it a goal to climb a v13 by the end of the year. I trained throughout the winter climbing 4-5 days a week to get the fitness I needed to accomplish that goal... During the summer of 2016 I accomplished that climbing goal by climbing my first v13 Clan of the Cave Bears! With this boost of confidence I went on to climb 2 more v13s shortly after."
He has been captivated by the sheer beauty and vastness of the mountains for as long as he can remember. For the last 6½ years, Jeremy has held down his job at FedEx Express, allowing him to spend his free time climbing in the mountains.
"I’m in love with the pumpkin seeds and the bars. I like how everything that Skout puts into their products is so good for me and makes me feel healthy after eating them. Anytime I need a boost of energy, I always reach for a bar and a bag of pumpkin seeds. Within 30 mins I’m energized and ready for whatever comes my way."
"Over the past two years I have completed [in] 3 marathons lowering my personal best to 3 hours 3 mins 35 secs in London 2018 as part of Team USA […] the fastest marathon time recorded by an American amputee and is also the world record in the marathon for all amputees in the double below-the-knee category.”

Willie McBride has been an outdoor athlete for most of his life, having fallen in love with rock climbing at age 10. SInce then, he has climbed rocks and mountains, skied, hiked, run trails, and much more, all over the world.
Willie's greatest professional accomplishment has been creating and growing a successful coaching and training business over the past 5 years with his business partner, Yassine Diboun.
"Starting the business, putting myself out there by teaching and public speaking, and learning how to manage my anxiety in the face of those challenges has been truly life changing and is the thing I'd say I'm most proud of."
Willie's inspiration comes from people who do big things, not for the recognition, fanfare, or social media status, but simply because they love to do them. His love for the outdoors combined with his love for connecting with people and helping push them past their perceived limits has hugely impacted the lives of many.
"Skout stands apart for the simplicity of its products, the delicious and all-organic ingredients they use, and their commitment to environment and sustainability in all they do. Skout just seems devoid of gimmicks or ingenuine advertising. To me, Skout just is what it is—a successful, principled company making natural, tasty and effective fuel for active folk—without the hype.
Skout products work for me both during adventures AND during daily life because I enjoy simple, clean-burning, natural ingredients that are easy to digest and taste great. As a trainer and coach and someone often on my feet all day, I need energy that can last and is easily accessible and on-the-go. Skout's raw pumpkin seeds are great to have in my backpack, or car, or gym bag so I can fuel little by little and never get in a deficit.”
Ultrarunner and nutritionist Jesse Rich was taught from a young age to live an active lifestyle and eat healthy food. This upbringing inspired Jesse’s passion for the medical field. Through his personal dietary experiments while running 50-mile races, and his pursuit of a medical assisting certificate, Jesse discovered the naturopathic medical field.
He left his home in Utah to move to Portland, Oregon, where he graduated with a masters in nutrition from the National College of Natural Medicine. His nutritional knowledge and training have allowed him to continue trail running, completing his first 100 miler in less than 25 hours.
Jesse founded Forward Progressions as a way to provide tailored nutritional advice and customized education to those hoping to improve athletic performance, find relief from chronic fatigue, or improve health and energy.
“As a trail runner, I have had such a hard time finding foods that sit well with me on the run. Skout Backcountry provides bars with ingredients that are easily digested, high in nutrients, and that pack a lot of energy in each bar. It’s hard to find products with so few ingredients that have such a great taste!”
Janessa has been a runner most of her life, but she didn’t run any ultras until just a few years ago. Since then, she has found great success in ultrarunning!
Mtn. Lakes 100 in 2014 was Janessa’s first attempt at the 100-mile distance. She not only won the race with a time of 16:24, but she also set the women's course record! She followed that up with an overall win and overall course record in 2015 at Antelope Canyon 100, and an overall win at Badger Mtn. 100 in 16:55, which was another overall course record.
In 2016, Janessa ran the fastest known unsupported time across the Great Smoky Mountain National Park – a 71-mile traverse along the Appalachian Trail with over 18,000 feet of elevation gain.
“I strive to eat clean and choose simple, organic ingredients. Skout has just a few ingredients of real food. It is easy on the stomach while training or racing. I love that Skout is vegan too!”
Ultra runner, mountaineer, and explorer, John Wros’ adventures always make incredible stories. Of his many feats, John holds the Alaska Winter Classics as consistently his most rewarding trips each year.
In 2016, John was involved in a collaboration to add 36,000 acres to Alaska’s Afognak Island State Park – 36,000 acres of land, 10 miles of salmon streams, and 13 miles of coastline.
“Generally speaking, sports nutrition products aren't great for daily consumption. Skout bars are proving to be a good fuel source without the junk. Eat well, live long and prosper.”

Ultra runner Matt Palilla has had quite a successful running career. 2014 brought him a sub-24-hour finish at the Western States 100, and he placed third overall at the 2015 White River 50 Miler.
2016 was a big year for Matt. His training for Maryland’s 54th annual JFK 50 Miler brought him to first place in the Portland Marathon in October. One month later, he placed fifth in the JFK 50 – a very competitive field in the oldest ultramarathon in the U.S.
“Skout works for me because of what they're made from: simple, good ingredients. Everything in them is what I normally snack on, so having them in packed in a bar makes adventures much easier.”
“I've always been active and athletic, as well as passionate about the outdoors, so trail running has always come naturally. Growing up on the Oregon Coast provided ample opportunity to explore trails from an early age and trail running has been a part of my life ever since… I competed in high school and college cross country and track, and still enjoy trail running as my favorite outdoor activity.”
Jeremy Long has run and placed well at many distances over the years, from 5K to 50 miles, and has 100K and 100 miles in his sights.
Most recently, Jeremy has started his own business as a race director of some trail ultramarathons in the Pacific Northwest. Skout Backcountry has had the opportunity to sponsor many of these races, providing on-course fuel and nutrition.
“Skout Trail Bars work for me because of their whole food ingredients, great flavors and non-sticky, convenient packaging. I can eat them easily when out on the trails, even late into long runs and races when most foods and gels no longer taste good. They also just make me feel proud, knowing I'm eating healthy, organic food while supporting a local small business who is also a member of the outdoor community. Skout bars are just a win-win.”

“I played traditional sports growing up and running was always a punishment. Then, about 5 years ago, I saw my wife come through the finish line at her first half marathon and said, ‘That looks like fun.’ I ran my first half marathon the next month, my first marathon a year later, and my first 50k a year after that. Since then I have found a real passion for running long miles in the trails of Bend, Oregon.”
In a period of only five years, Rick Stilson has achieved an incredible portfolio.
He has won... • The 2016 NW Mountain Trail Series • The 2016 Mt Hood 50 • The 2016 Peterson Ridge Rumble 40-miler • The 2015 Flagline 50k
He has top finishes in... • The 2015 Peterson Ridge Rumble • The 2016 Smith Rock Ascent 50k • The Volcanic 50k • The 2016 Flagline 50k
But this has in no way affected Rick’s priorities. “Throughout the years, I have learned that everything I do pales in comparison to my greatest achievement…my family - my wife and 4 kids,” says the accomplished athlete. We're honored to have Rick on our team!
"To me, Skout stands out from the alternatives because of its consistency: literally and figuratively. I used to eat brand “x’s” and because there are so many ingredients, you kinda get lost in the ingredient abyss. Skout’s simplicity with its limited ingredients make it incredibly easy to eat and digest."
